Fall 2017 Programming

We are excited to announce our Fall 2017 Programming. There are an array of new options to ensure the best fit for your rower’s ability. Registration will be open by 4 August. We look forward to welcoming you back. See you on the water!

PROGRAMS
Preseason (8/28-9/1)
Preseason is open to High Schoolers
All athletes aiming for a spot on the Varsity program or Intermediate program should attend Preseason, which will be a week long training and evaluation process in the last week of August, culminating in a 5K erg test on 9/1. Selection for Varsity & Intermediate teams will be dependent on coaches evaluations, erg test results, and technique, resulting from evaluation during the preseason. An athlete unable to attend preseason will need to submit a 5k erg score by 9/1 for consideration.
There will be two Preseason session times available. They are:
3:00PM-5:00PM
5:00PM-7:00PM

Varsity (9/5-11/10)
Varsity is open to High Schoolers with previous rowing experience
The top 50 athletes (roughly divided 50/50 boys/girls) will be invited to compete on the Varsity squad. The Varsity squad practices will be 2h15m long, and will begin on Tuesday, September 5th. The Varsity squad will have 5 team practices per week, and a 6th workout per week expected to be completed individually. The Varsity squad will aim to compete in every regatta. Attendance at all practices is required, absences may impact race participation.
The Varsity team will train in the 2nd PM session M-F.
THE TIMES WILL CHANGE TWO TIMES AS DAYLIGHT DECREASES:
5:00PM – 7:15PM 9/5 TO 9/15
4:45PM – 7:00PM 9/18 TO 9/29
4:30PM – 6:45PM 10/1 TO 11/10

Intermediate (9/5-11/10)
Varsity is open to High Schoolers
The Intermediate team will be capped at 25 athletes (roughly divided 50/50 boys girls). Preference will be given to results from preseason assessment. The Intermediate squad practices will be 1h45m long, and will begin on Tuesday, September 5th. The Intermediate squad will have 5 team practices per week, and a 6th workout per week expected to be completed individually. The Intermediate squad will aim to compete in all regattas, except for the Head of the Charles. Attendance at all practices is required, absences may impact race participation.
The Intermediate team will train in the 1st PM session M-F. Practice time will be:
3:30pm – 5:15pm

Recreational (9/6-11/10)
Recreational is open to all High Schoolers
The Recreational squad will be capped at 20 athletes. Athletes enter a waiting list, preference will be given to athletes who tried out for Varsity/Intermediate. The Recreational squad practices will be 1h45m long, and will begin on Tuesday September 5th. The Recreational squad will have 3 team practices per week, and access to ergs for supplemental training upon request. Attendance is optional, racing is subject to boat availability.
The Recreational team practices will be in the 1st PM session Wednesday and in the morning on the weekends. Practice time will be:
Wednesday 3:30pm – 5:15pm
Saturday/Sunday 8:00am – 9:45am

Development (9/5-11/10)
Development is open to 7th, 8th and 9th graders
The Development squad will be capped at 40 athletes (roughly divided 50/50 boys girls). Preference will be given to first year athletes, and young athletes. Practices will be 1h45m long, and will begin Tuesday September 5th. The Development squad will have 4 team practices per week. The Development squad will only compete in a TBD scrimmage, and in the PCRA Grab Bag.
The Development team practices will be in the 1st PM session, Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri. Practice time will be :
M T Th F: 3:30pm – 5:15pm

INFORMATION SESSION
There will be a parent information session on Wednesday, 13 September at 6:30pm to review plans and requirements for the season. Please join us at the Pelham Manor Club, 1023 Esplanade, Pelham. Parking is on the street. Please walk up the gravel driveway to enter the theatre.

COACHING
All aspects of Youth Rowing will be commanded by our Director, Henrik Rummel, who will also serve as interim Head Girls Coach for Fall 2017.  Both Henrik and our Head Boys Coach, Reid Johnson, will develop our teams along with additional part-time assistant coaches. We are currently conducting a search for the full-time girl’s coach.

Head of the Riverfront (Sunday 10/1)
Head of the Passaic (Sunday 10/15)
Head of the Charles (Saturday & Sunday 10/21-10/22) [overnight trip, select entries, priority for Varsity crews]
Head of the Schuylkill (Saturday & Sunday 10/28-10/29) [overnight trip]
