2017 Summer Programs – registration now open!

We have three different options for summer rowing programs. They differ in time length, intensity, and prior rowing experience. Please see below to learn more about our Race Team, Summer Camp, and Smooth Sculling!

 

Race Team

Train to race, and compete to win!

*Summer Program ends August 4 for non-Canadian Henley bound crews

Program Overview:

The Youth Race Team program will accept 48 disciplined rowers eager to train hard and race at the Independence Day and Philadelphia Youth Regattas with our competitive crews ending the season at the Canadian Henley. The team will focus on sculling with some sweep. All athletes are expected to race at both IDR and Philly Youth Regatta. Our program will include running, core and body strength work and some video review. Prepare, execute and FINISH.

When you sign up for the race team you will be automatically placed on the wait list. The team will be selected on May 31, 2017. You must register before then to be considered. You will not be asked to submit payment until you have been selected for the team.

Practice Schedule:

Week of June, 19th, 2017: Monday to Friday from 5:30 – 7:30pm

Rest of summer: Monday to Friday from 6:30 – 8:45am

                               Mon., Wed. & Thurs. from 5:00 – 6:30pm

Regatta Schedule:

6/30 – 7/2       Independence Day Regatta, Philadelphia, PA

7/22                 Philadelphia Youth Regatta, Philadelphia, PA

Summer Camp

Row twice a day, for five days!

We run six one-week programs throughout the summer. Each Summer Camp runs Monday to Friday from 10:00am to 3:00pm.

Program Overview:

The program is limited to 24 athletes per week.  Program is open to rising 7th graders and up.  Come with your friends, come with your child, or just come and spend a week with us! Learn to row, learn to row better and have great fun!

Learn to Row: Our one week in-depth sculling camp is perfect for learn to row and novice rowers. Our learn to row campers will be introduced to rowing through the barge (a large sturdy boat). Our goal is to have everyone rowing quads and doubles and perhaps the single before the camp is over.  A typical day will include rowing, some video review, and a lunch break followed by another row and learning session. Athletes will be boated with rowers of similar ability.

Experienced scullers: Come alone or as a group and row together each day! You will get drills, distance, video review, and coaching twice a day, every day, for five days. Learn to effortlessly and efficiently move the boat in between your strokes.

Camp Schedule:

Monday to Friday from 10:00 – 3:00pm

Week 1: June 26 – June 30

Week 2: July 3 – July 7 (no camp 7/4)

Week 3: July 10 – July 14

Week 4: July 17 – July 21

Week 5: July 24 – July 28

Week 6: July 31 – August 4



Smooth Sculling

In between the strokes, send the boat great distances!

Program Overview:

This is open for all youth and masters scullers.  Come as many days a week as you can for as many weeks as you can.  Dusk, the water turns to glass with the evening warm air, go for a nice steady state row. Everyone will go out in sculling boats, thus some experience is required.  Coaches will help everyone and give coaching when asked.  All scullers will know or learn the traffic pattern rules and follow them accordingly.

The program is limited to 40 athletes per session.

Smooth Sculling Schedule:

Monday to Friday from 6:00 to 8:00pm
